Year 11 Day 169
Riley Moonrigger, the new CEO of Chiewab Amalgamated Pharmaceuticuals Company, has been treated for exhaustion less than two weeks after arriving in Dolomar system to oversee the transfer of the company headquarters. He was admitted to Satravaidya Hospital of Dolomar, Chiewab’s under-construction XQ-2 class hospital station, in the early hours of Y11 D169. Despite rumors that circulated on the holonet in the hours after his appearance at the hospital, Mr. Moonrigger was suffering from neither fatigue caused by his return to the world of high stakes business, nor intoxication on the blue tea of his homeworld Salliche¹. Rather, the cause was something completely unexpected: Dolomar Arctic Mold.
“Mr. Moonrigger has been found to be highly allergic to a particular high-altitude, low-temperature mold spore that is found in low orbit of the planet Dolomar,” said Dr. Adnama Peers, supervisor of Satravaidya Hospital. “Although lifeforms rarely come in direct contact with the spore, most ships passing through the upper atmosphere are exposed to a very light dusting. This residual mold coating can then interact with lifeforms on the ground.” Dr. Peers went on to explain that the overwhelming majority of visitors to Dolomar experience no reaction to the mold.
CEO Moonrigger’s level of exposure is reported to be low, and not life-threatening. However, between the stresses of transferring Chiewab’s base of operations, and his body’s subtle-but-increasing response to the foreign substance, his health quickly deteriorated over the past few days. Now that the allergy has been identified, Mr. Moonrigger will undergo a regimen of holistic stratoprotein adaptation that will render him immune to the mold in two to three months.
“I knew taking over the company was going to be tough,” Mr. Moonrigger quipped from his spartan quarters, one of the few functional rooms on the new hospital station, “I just didn’t think it would beat me up like this!”
He added, “I suppose it’s a good thing I took over a medical faction, and not a recycling company, or who knows what kind of treatment I’d be getting right now.”
1. It should be noted, Sallichean tea intoxication affects amphibious species almost exclusively, and has only a mild stimulant effect on most humanoids. This rumor, though widespread, is due entirely to the large Nautolan population of Dolomar system.
