Union Strike as Workers Contracts Terminated by KCI

Year 20 Day 70

A spontaneous protest erupted on Cularin Belt I today by the Hevvrol Federation Workers Union after several hundred of its workers were laid off, personally being fired by Chairman Siejo Kutol. Reports became more dubious when it was found that many of these workers were being held on Zann Consortium ships.

Sadly, this is appearing to be becoming something of a trend. Almost exactly 1 year ago, Chairman Kutol terminated the contract of about 20% of the KCI workforce. Trying to cut costs, Kutol was surprised by the push back from the Union. When they threatened to strike, Kutol released a press statement threatening to turn control back over to Echuu Shen-Jon and his pirates.. This lead to a quick resolution of the issue last year, but this time. the Union vowed to not stand for mistreatment.

Van Dik’Wtr, head of the Union in Glom Tho, reached out to the Federation News Network. “It is a complete disgrace and simply wrong. Good people wouldn’t do this.” The Advozse male told a reporter. “Many of these workers are being held against their will. Their families depend on those monthly paychecks! Corruption was supposed to have ended with the rule of the CIS. With actions like this, what makes the Hevvrol Federation any better?” He later felt that mismanagement of the faction is more likely to blame. Mr. Dik`wtr pointed out that since Chairman Kutol came out of retirement recently, there has been some irresponsible decisions made in regards to faction spending. The Federation did look into these claims and found evidence of roughly 8 billion credits recently being sent out of the faction for what could be considered frivolous assets.

Chairman Kutol could not be reached for comment, but Ore’Duke Kran Chan was made available by the corporation. A Federation Reporter was able to meet up with KCI’s Second-in- Command at the Kutol-Chan Industrial Bazaar. Chan was there making final preparations before heading out to the upcoming Interstellar League Conference in Nauto Prime.

A Video appears, showing a well dressed Duros lounging in a large office chair. A reporter’s voice could be heard in the background speaking in Galactic Basic.

“Ore duke Chan.” the reporter asked in a calm voice, “Classified reports were leaked yesterday showing Chairman Kutol terminated the contracts of workers held against their will. Workers are furious throughout Federation space and threatening to strike. Are these reports true?”
Kran Chan leans forward, folding his hands, and begins to speak. “These reports are definitely not true. Kutol-Chan Industries cares deeply for all of our workers and their well being. All recent firings were related strictly to performance. Our company has a strong stance on productivity and If you can’t or won’t work effectively, you will get let go.”
The reporter quickly countered, “ Additional leaked comments from your office hint that some on the inside feel that the company may be running on hard times.” The reporter throws a stack of papers onto Chan’s Desk. “These papers show evidence of many purchases recently, in excess of 8 billion credits since the sale of Ciutric. Is the company being responsible? Is the flagship faction of the Federation in trouble?”
Kran Chan placed one hand on the stack of papers, not looking down at them, and answered camly, “KCI is as profitable as we have ever been. Any rumors to the contrary are simply false.” With that said, he leaned back in his chair, unphased.

The reporter moved on. “Any personal thoughts on the upcoming Interstellar League Conference on Cularin? What do you hope comes from hosting the second major meeting of the new alliance.”
Ore’Duke Chan smiled. “I am looking forward to convening with the leaders of the League to discuss how we can make our sectors safer and more prosperous. A neutral alliance of smaller, independent factions working together is a fresh idea in a galaxy focused only on war between the empire and the republic. I’m confident that the alternative vision we present of peace and profitability will appeal to trillions of sentients galaxy wide, so I’m truly excited to attend this conference.
“Any word on the possibility of rebranding this trading complex for centralized League sales and trading?” The reporter shot back quickly, but Chan did not seem to mind the tone. “No Comment.” He responded.
