The New New Republic Declares its Sovereignty, Backtracks Hours Later

Concern and Confusion Spread Quickly with Declaration

Year 21 Day 126

The galaxy was caught off guard yesterday when the announcement of a New Republic came across the airways. The Confederacy of Independent Systems, a relatively isolated government had reorganized into a republic, dubbed the “New Republic”. Many were confused, wondering if this meant that the CIS had joined the failed NR that had been destroyed by the Empire or simply decided to pilfer the name off of the corpseof the old organization. Some wondered what this meant for neutrality. The Corporate Alliance subsequently declared its independence from the New Republic, taking back the mantle of the Confederacy of Independent Systems.

Siejo Kutol, current Chairman of Kutol-Chan Industrial and Leader of the CIS organization, was also caught off guard. He had been working on asteroid settlements and was mining his own business. When reached for comment, response was delayed initially.

The former Corporate Alliance was happy to answer questions. “Long live the Republic!” Declared Oreduke Kran Chan, leader of the new Confederacy. “This was an unexpected move and, while I respect my colleagues in the Republic, I am uncertain what the CIS place is in that organization. We fought decades ago to free ourselves from a corrupt Republic. Why would we go back? Besides, rumors were heard by the Alliance Directorate of a new tax on durellium and we are against such a thing.”

Since the Newly formed Republic was not answering requests for interviews, confusion was widespread and left many looking for inside information into the sudden change of allegiance.  Leadership from the Rebel Alliance, which is composed from the remains from the Old New Republic were quick to dismiss any idea of an allegiance between the two groups. Privately, though, it is alleged that the Head of State himself reached out to the New Republic for answers. The Corporate Sector Authority, who had been working closely with the Confederacy in the Outer Rim, allegedly approached the Republic about joining with the remaining CIS forces in their declaration of Independence from the Republic. Other large organizations also took notice, and leadership from the Galactic Concordiate also allegedly launched an inquiry into the matter. There was no word on a response from the Empire or Imperial Union.

After roughly 12 hours of confusion, an additional announcement was made, declaring the New Republic dead and reinstating the Confederacy. Chairman Kutol released a statement, apologizing for the confusion and providing a slim explanation. The Declaration seemed to originate from a signal in the expanse region. A salvage crew with the Confederate Resource Allocation and Reclamation guild Aerotech had identified a Valor-class cruiser in the Chagri System that had been abandoned. The ship had been part of the Galactic Civil war on the side of the Rebellion. When the ship was added to the Confederate registry, it produced an error due to the conflicting allegiances. This lead the T Series left in command at the nearby Garrison in Vasuuli to issue the report seen Galaxy wide. The T Series unit has since been retired from service and the Valor-class cruiser, dubbed “Forlorn Hope” is enroute to Vasuuli for repairs.
