CIS & GRA formalize relations

GORDIAN REACH – The Confederacy of Independent Systems and the Gordian Reach Authority signed official documents recognizing each other as sovereign nations and in the form of a Non-Aggresion Pact. The agreement was brokered by Viceroy Mirax of the GRA and Chairman Kutol of the CIS after a period of discussion and negotiation.

Whilst these treaties otherwise known as NAPs are not uncommon between governments and other organizations the creation of this one has been unique as each party have been neighbors for many years but have never formalized relations between one another.

The Confederacy of Independent Systems, now a member of the Galactic Concordiate had tried multiple times to form an alliance in the Outer-Rim between themselves and other groups. Eventually this became the Interstellar League although critics have pointed out that even this did not turn out as successful as it was originally imagined.

The Gordian Reach Authority however joined the Confederacy of Free Trade Worlds, which would have appeared to show the two governments moving down very separate paths especially as the Free Trade Worlds was founded by former members of the Interstellar League.

Arda Hamer, a professor at the University of Torque commented on the CIS and GRA. He said “Both Outer-Rim Governments share common interests. Both sides are invested in the security of the Outer-Rim territories and both sought out alliance memberships and both seek economic stability and growth. I suppose if you wanted to compare the differences you could say that the Authority remained true to the ways of the Outer-Rim, less paperwork and more face to face deals whereas the CIS had to adopt practices more commonly found in the Core Worlds due to the divide in its overall territories, particularly its sectors in the South. This would create different ways of thinking but really at their heart they are both Outer-Rim governments.”

When asked to give a comment the CIS did not provide an official comment citing that NAPs are general basic treaties however sources linked to the Office of the Chairman of the CIS commented how these formalized relations now provide the foundation for future co-operation. It has even been speculated that as part of these discussions and Outer-Rim trade hub has been considered as part of a mutual project that will empower the Outer-Rim financially making it easier to trade goods and services.
