Coruscant (ING) – A significant moment of galactic history was announced today by the Emperor. Demonstrating that the collapse of the New Republic continues to cause ripples across the galaxy, Emperor Seele provided notice to Imperial citizens that two formal treaties had been established between the Galactic Empire and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, and the Krath Empire. Explained by Emperor Seele, the two treaties reset relations between the governments, formalising a diplomatic status of amenable neutrality and recognition of historic territorial claims across a number of sectors.
The Treaty of Rachuk transitions the status of the Krath to that of neutral neighbour to the Galactic Empire, signalling an end to over a decade of war between the galactic powers. The Krath Empire has invested significant effort in closing the diplomatic divide between themselves and the Imperial Union after they left the Galactic Alliance in Year 19 as a result of ongoing disputes and conflicts with the former New Republic. Emperor Seele detailed this recognition of neutrality as a key element to the sincerity in the New Order’s pursuit of peace across the galaxy.
Speaking of the mending of a conflict-ridden rift between the Empire and the Krath, the supreme Imperial authority explained: “It is critical that we recognise when a foe no longer bears us ill-will, and is willing to work together to build the prosperity of our peoples. When we see that has occurred, we have the moral obligation to lay aside our arms, and cooperate for the greater good, and to enable us to focus our efforts where the true enemy lies.”
The new-found peace does not just establish an end to hostilities between Imperial and Krath forces, but also provides for the re-establishment of governance over worlds and systems which have been historic claims of the other party. The treaty identifies the Empire will surrender the recently freed worlds of the Marasa Nebula sector to the Krath Empire, while in return the Krath will relinquish governorship of the Rachuk sector; the latter being a sector central to previous battles between the governments as they fought the Galactic Civil War.
Simultaneously announcing the treaty to the Krath, Emperor Kasra spoke of the foundational shift of the Krath’s relationship with the Imperial Union. “Today marks a momentous victory for the Krath people. The peace we have strived for in the past two years has finally been realized, and we may move forward on a path of our own. I thank Emperor Seele for inviting me to his halls and hope that in the future we may move forward as friendly acquaintances.”. The second monumental treaty with the Confederacy of Independent Systems (CIS) follows a similar vein to that with the Krath, establishing new arrangements for governance of sectors which have long been claimed by the other, or are administratively and culturally aligned with another government. The Treaty of Kliap continues the relationship between the CIS and the Empire which has formally been neutral for a number of years to this point.
Containing a larger exchange of territory, the Treaty of Kliap also includes provisions for exchange of territories which fall within the claims of not just the Empire, but also Black Sun. Significantly, the treaty relinquishes Imperial Union governance of recently acquired sectors from the collapse of the New Republic in the form of the Morshdine and Ehosiq sectors. In return, the CIS will accept Black Sun claims for the Dynali sector, and transition the government of the Kliap sector to the Galactic Empire. Both exchanges are expected by analysts to buttress productive relationships between the Imperial Union and Galactic Concordiate as the galaxy settles into a new status quo in the wake of the New Republic’s collapse. Current residents within the affected territory will not be displaced but will instead be eligible to apply for citizenship of their new governing nation.
Speaking to the press on the announcement by the Emperor, Head of State Logas provided his perspective on the forward moving treaty: “Peace and prosperity are both goals and hopes of the Confederacy and the Empire. While a territorial exchange is never easy, this treaty ensures that all roadblocks toward maintaining peace, and prospering together, are removed.”
With the Galactic Empire’s recent diplomatic moves after claiming victory over the New Republic, keen observers of galactic affairs note the Empire is focusing its efforts into consolidating and entrenching the Imperial Union’s claims over their recent territorial gains. While some critics suggest the Empire was caught unprepared for such a significant windfall, combined with underestimation of rebel sentiment amongst local populations of the Outer Rim, it is certainly indisputable that we now see a more secure footing for the Imperial Union across their expanded territory. With what could be considered a resetting of many relationships and governance arrangements in the Core and Inner Rim, dinner-table conversation now turns to wonder as to the next moves of a costly triumph for the Imperial Union.
