New Head of State Elected, Set to take Office Immediately
Year 21 Day 109
Last week, it was announced that the Asher System would be joining the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Statements made both by CEO Sehrin and Chairman Kutol lead to a flurry amongst political commentators on what the specific impact of the addition of the Asher system and the Galactica Group would be, however all agreed that it predicated something big.
Expectations that the Confederacy would steadily become more business friendly were met and exceeded when the Confederacy government immediately began offering access to governmental resources to individuals interested in opening a registered corporation in Confederacy territory. Additional offers were extended towards corporations interested in shifting their base of operations toward the galactic north, northern-east outer rim, or to the north-west of the galactic core. The economic impact of these changes is expected to provide a massive boon to entrepreneurs throughout the galaxy, and pundits have already begun speculating about a shift from the galactic core amongst small and mid-sized businesses, the backbone of the galactic economy.
Few expected however for former CEO Sehrin of the Galactica Group to be elected by the Advisory Committee to Head of State. While the corporate leadership of the Galactica Group had been added to the Advisory Committee, it was merely one voice among many, and the critical vote was cast by Chairman Kutol himself.
While not the first time a newcomer has held the office, it is a rare happening. In first CIS alliance, the progenitor of the current Confederate Government, Ettorie Kalsi of Galactic Medical was elected as Head of State in Year 12. Kalsi, whose reign was cut short during a tragic encounter with a black hole, has always been remembered as a positive force for the government, and is fondly remembered by most.
Many expected Siejo Kutol to hold the office long term. Having officially been elected to Head of State 3 times, and having held the office twice as interim Head of State, he seemed the obvious choice. However, the number of terms Chairman Kutol held the office of Head of State was a major factor in his vote towards Dex Sehrin.
Dex Sehrin and Siejo Kutol have a recently uncovered history dating back years of friendship via the Nautolan Society, an organization based on solidarity with Nautolans who left their homeworld of Glee Anslem to make their way in the galaxy. While never hidden, the friendship between the two was obvious to those of the Nautolan Society, but generally overlooked by the general public, and the two have long held each other in high regard.
While it is unknown as to the extent that the Confederacy will be changing moving forward, it is almost universally viewed in a positive light. Already the systems of the Confederacy are seeing greater local autonomy and an increase in industrial and governmental activity. The formation of a Confederacy Senate is also in process with some well known names throwing their names into the ring. Preliminary polling shows Horley Cyan, former Viceroy of the Trade Federation and founder Confederacy of Independent Systems winning a landslide victory over the former Schism Collective worlds. Odac Drol, former head of the Potentium Order, is ahead by well over 40% in the polls for the Unified Ruurian Colonies. As the senate formation continues, it is sure to bring many faces to the forefront of galactic politics.
