Last night, in the capital of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, a droid spokesperson for Head of State Dex Sehrin released a prerecorded message from the leader of the Confederacy. In it, Mr. Sehrin confirmed the rumors that the Confederacy of Independent Systems was a member of the Endor Pact.
Political analysts across the galaxy are now reacting to what has been seen as a major shake-up of the galactic landscape. After several Avancian systems joined the Confederacy earlier in the year, some thought it would only have been a matter of time before the Confederacy would apply to join the regional alliance. Rumors began several months ago, backed up by images allegedly showing leadership from the Confederacy meeting with leaders of Czerka Corporation and the Trade Federation in the Endor System.
As rumors swirled, Trade Federation support ships were seen frequently in the newest Confederate Systems, and the lack of an official announcement became suspicious. During a recent visit to Hassaria, several reporters pinned Chairman Siejo Kutol while he oversaw the loading of materials onto the Lucrehulk Hass Backwards. Chairman Kutol refused to answer any specific questions, but was quick to remind the small crowd to keep their eyes on their local press releases.
Whilst this announcement was expected, it represents a significant shift in the galaxy’s balance of power. The Endor Pact is a collective defense treaty primarily intended to provide a united military response against aggressors to signatories. Formed in Year 19 by Viceroy Jacob Jansen of the Trade Federation, the Pact initially served as an effort to solidify peaceful relations with the remnants of the Avance Coalition, which had decided against merging with the Trade Federation back in Year 16. The Pact was regional in nature, including only the occupants of the formerly Avancian territory: Trade Federation, the Kingdom of Elysia, and Kolkpravis.
While at a galaxy wide celebration in the Bright Jewel System in Year 21, in orbit of Ord Mantell, Representatives from the signatories of the Endor Pact met with the Emperor of Krath, Talak Kasra, aboard the Lucrehulk-class Battleship Prosperity. During one of the most talked about gatherings of the last decade, great progress was made and delegates were able to find time to come to a firm agreement on their common goals of mutual defense and neutral independence in the Southern Region. Krath had recently signed the Treaty of Rachuk with the Galactic Empire, making the government officially neutral in the Empire’s war with the Rebel Alliance. The purview of the treaty expanded in Year 21 when the Krath’s admission was announced soon after the end of the Party.
Near the same time, the Confederacy also ended their hostilities with the Empire that had been in place for a generation with the Treaty of Kliap. There were whispers of Confederate leadership having private conversations during the events on Prosperity with some of the present delegates as well, but nothing official was ever announced, that is until now.
With the official announcement of the Confederacy’s admission into the Endor Pact, the alliance now stands as one of the strongest cohorts in the galaxy. There has not been word yet on a formal gathering to welcome the newest member of the Pact, but surely there will be soon.
