Year 24 Day 48
In another week of surprise announcements within the business sector, officials of the Confederacy announced the merger of its three largest medical companies.
Outer Rim Medical, Asher Institute of Medical Research and Royal Vorsian Healthcare all submitted filings to local authorities on the same day announcing the formation of a new galaxy-wide company; Troika Medical Distribution.
Filings by the three medical companies show that they will each become a subdivision of the newest and largest medical entity within the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
“Initially negotiations were quite tough. A lot of work has gone into the development of each respective company and it was hard to understand why the merger was necessary, however once the benefits began to outweigh the cons, everyone agreed this would be the best thing moving forwards.
It’s believed that AIMR came in at the tail end of discussions, but agreed to take the lead role in managing the new company. This was echoed by Dr Pat Kil`astra who said “You know, not having to personally shred documents to avoid paying a lot of tax is really liberating. Now it’s up to Janus to ensure we can hide the profits!”
The merger comes within a series of mergers happening within the Confederacy. Only last week, the Scrapper Guild and Sprizen Material Holdings merged into a single company.
Outer Rim Medical was founded in Year 11 by Ettore Kalsi under the appellation of Galactic Medical and served loyally from within the Confederacy of Independent Systems. After the Red Fury Revolution in Year 19 and the subsequent collapse of the government, GalMed continued as an independent corporation closely tied to the Corporate Alliance. Under the steady hand of Dr. Pat Kil’astra, the small but sturdy medical group rebanded in 21 after the collapse of the Corporate Alliance forced most of the operation to the Thesme and Ciutric Sectors in the Outer Rim.
Investors have been scrambling to get a stake in Troika Medical Distribution as it is believed that medical sales will soar after local planetary laws in the north repealed laws requiring health insurance to work. Erek Haskell of Cybot Galactica commented saying “You see these droids? They don’t qualify for health insurance, why should they lose out on such equal opportunities? It’s easier to remove the insurance barrier altogether and make us all equal in the workplace!”
As the Confederacy looks to streamline its operations, many business analysts are speculating where the next big merger will come from. Officials have declined to comment saying that all options are on the table and nothing is being overlooked.
