Year 24 Day 53
After a brief period of turmoil within the upper echelons of Confederate leadership, government press secretaries have come forward announcing the new makeup of the Confederate Triumvirate. After the departure of Taldar Logas from the council, Truse’vala’ilone was appointed as the new Magistrate of the North, while Siejo Kutol maintained administration of the South, with Dex Sehrin continuing to stand at the helm of the ship as Head of State. Reportedly, the current configuration of the Triumvirate council was a hard fought battle to reach a compromise to appease the discontent within the Confederacy’s northern sectors. While the council’s press secretary refused to give any official confirmation, unofficial reports from trustworthy sources indicate that the North threatened to secede from the confederate state and reform itself as an independent nation before the current accord was reached.
Political and Cultural differences between the northern and southern sectors of the Confederacy have been steadily increasing over recent years, especially after the southern migration of the state’s administrative centre from Hevvrol. The move south had created a profitable environment for corporations within the northern sectors for expansion as there was a significant opportunity for economic development with the necessary infrastructure already being in place. Yet, a majority of the state sponsored expansion over the past year was seen in the southern sectors.
As the Tar Morden and Hassaria systems grew exponentially, the Asher and Thesme systems stagnated. Official reports register that concerns were raised through the appropriate channels to leadership from leading members of the Ciutric Hegemony, the local corporation who was to oversee the region. The galactic divide between the North and South made direct support difficult. In addition, differences in culture created a difference in policy regarding corporate autonomy, with the businesses in the north striving for more self-determination and market freedom than was granted since. In response, government leadership expanded the affiliation program from within the government in efforts to revitalize the region. It was not until the Scrapper Guild spearheaded the project that the northern sectors felt truly appreciated.
Unofficial sources have confirmed that the northern sectors of the confederate state are currently sufficiently appeased with the leadership changes in the Confederate Triumvirate, with any separatist sentiments having faded into the background. Political speculators remain divided as to whether the cultural differences between the north and south will continue to spark similar conflicts within the highest strata of Confederate government power, or whether this recent discord was a one-time occurrence that threatened the unity of the Confederacy. A celebration to honor the outgoing Regent will be held next week on Junction to thank him for his service.
