Year 24 Day 64
This past week’s “space combat” championship drew record shattering records as the Space Debris was defeated by reigning champion Jawa Supremacy. The CIS Shadowfeed hosted a non-biased local broadcast throughout Confederate Space, and drew the highest number of active viewers since the feed’s reinstatement.
Space Debris, the Scrapper Guild sponsored space combat squad, recently took part in a galaxy-wide competition. After dominating the early rounds, the squad was able to complete a surprising run to the finals after expediently defeating the Phu Fighters in the Semi-Finals. Led by team captain Truse’vala’ilone, commenters offered high praise for the team’s strategic imagination and communicative ability, and hailed Truse’vala’ilone’s assignments as “spot on” for each match.
Yet, even with the early success, the team was considered one of the biggest underdogs in comparison to the well established and veteran Jawa Supremacy. The match initially unfolded favorably, but the Jawa spacecrafts soon exhibited their apparent superiority with harder-hitting shots, and by doing more damage than the Space Debris team. Nonetheless, our reporters can confirm that the match was much more of a close call than the final score of 46-13 would attest. An unidentified team member was quoted, in response to the evidently narrow defeat, “I guess we need to make sure we are nice to the Jawas.” When asked for clarification, Truse’vala’ilone refused to comment.
In a post-match interview, Jawa Supremacy captain Kolomon Seph congratulated the Space Debris, verbally praising their tactics. “They gave us their toughest match of the competition.” Local analysts praised the team’s composure, but not everyone was pleased with the outcome. Some fans of the Space Debris were unhappy with the results, and openly challenged the outcome of the match on message boards, claiming that the Scrapper team could easily win if the rules of the event mirrored those in the training environment. Another group of fans openly claimed that the time constraints contributed to the loss by the Space Debris, and that the team sponsored by the Scrapper Guild could easily win in “a war of attrition”.
Even if the championship trophy went to the Jawas, our brave contestants did not leave empty handed. The competition offered members of the team the choice of rare, antique armors, a rare ship as well as a large sum of credits.
In the end, the Space Debris had claimed more wins than any other team, aside from the Jawa Supremacy, and were publicly celebrated by the leadership of the CIS.
All members of the team, including Ondoron Bondoon, Odessa Taeno, Zoltan “Pizza” Grubb the Hutt, Erik Haskell, Sevilla Koviak and Truse’vala IIone received commendation for their effort. They all received the Winter Exhibition Award , presented to the members of Space Debris for their outstanding effort and results. The next competition should be sometime later in the year and, as the popularity of the sport grows, so should the support of the Space Debris.
