Year 24 Day 272
The Office of the Triumvirate announced this week the formal creation of the Northern Separatist States; a devolved government that will administer the northern territories of the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
Rumors of this announcement had been coming for weeks as intense discussions between northern leaders and the Head of State Dex Sehrin were noted to have taken place several times in the weeks leading up to this announcement.
Whilst no formal statements have been issued on the matter, sources close to those responsible for the change did make comments about this:
“Look, Truse’vala’ilone is a great leader, he’s done wonders for Zrak and the north in general, but we kept hearing from his office plans to orchestrate a palace coup and oust Dex as the Head of State. So we created the NSS as a way of side-stepping the issue, and quite frankly, locking Sevala in place in his own northern palace.. far.. far.. far away from Tar Morden. He wins, we win, it’s really only the northern citizens that lose.”
The five sectors that now make up the NSS have long been considered by many the core of the Separatist movement. Most of the systems within had pledged to leave the Republic and had to endure dire consequences during the Clone Wars. After the war, many of the remaining Confederate forces retreated to Binquaros which became a Separatist stronghold. The planet was blockaded by Imperial forces, and slowly faded from the galactic consciousness; disappearing from most galactic maps of the time.
Meanwhile, under the tutelage of Horley Cyan and Taldar Logas, the remaining Outer Rim Confederate forces collected in the Thesme sector, first as the Confederate Remnant, also known as the Schism Collective, and later refounding the Confederate government. It was not until the recent migration of much of the Confederate forces to the southern sectors that administration of the northern region fell onto local leaders.
The formation of the NSS should lead to more autonomy for the northern sectors, but some have raised concerns in the Confederate Council that this could lead to secession of those sectors from the Separatist movement “Northern leaders and businesses are very independent thinkers and doers. They prefer less government interference or legislation and greater freedom to trade. The Confederacy as a whole has benefited immensely as a result of this, new contractors have onboarded, new deals worth trillions of credits have been made and northern leaders are at the forefront of diplomacy, whether through trade or traditional means.” When asked about this potential, Truse’vala’ilone was very firm with reporters, reaffirming the dedication of the north to the central government. Questions about the perceived dominance of the Red Glasses Movement and their involvement in the creation of the NSS were dismissed without answer.
